Baggage

A few years ago, after a break-up, my mom suggested I try to find someone without baggage. I replied that we all have baggage -- I know I certainly do -- it's just whether you've dealt with it or not.

A good friend of mine, who is a lurker on my blog but prefers to send her comments and encouragement privately via email, explained it another way. I think she's got it figured out and so enjoyed her take on it, I wanted to share:

It is my hope that people who know they have baggage (me included) take the scary steps needed to work on it, try to trust and love again, and get back to LIVING life their way and not in the shadow of an experience with someone else. Much easier said than done, as we both well know. It is also my feeling that someone with “extra” baggage either be willing to pay the heavy bag fee or offload some of that crap and just take a carry-on.

I totally agree. The airlines are now charging for checked luggage, encouraging carry-ons. That's going to be my new policy, too!

Did I really say that?? I should have said, with not so much baggage as some ???? Sorry for that poor suggestion - of course we all have baggage -- it's just some have better looking baggage than others :)

I am all for baggage, actually...I married one who'd been around a while and had plenty-o-stuff and I think the baggage makes them realize what they've got. I would have taken on more baggage than I got and probably would have loved being a step mom. I am a fan of baggage. Must be the influence of the finale of South Pacific resonating or something. Love is all that matters. Finding that love is the hard part. Once you have found him...

I like this post a lot. My baggage is all hanging above my too tight belt.......
But I'm working on it.

The secret is to try to avoid those who have so much baggage they could open up a luggage store. At some point one has to wonder if they are learning anything. On the other hand, one man's heavy lifting is another's carry on.

I so agree with the "The Lurker", but lets face it...sooner than later we all will have our fair share of baggage. It is just a matter of the when and where of our lives!! Doesn't baggage build our characters and make for stronger individuals! You go for it girl!!!
